Discover Kyoto Sushi & Steak

Kyoto Sushi & Steak at 6792 W 135th St, Overland Park, KS 66223, United States, is a gem that combines traditional Japanese cuisine with a modern twist, creating an experience that leaves a lasting impression. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere feels inviting, with subtle lighting and carefully arranged décor that balances elegance and comfort. Having visited several times, I can confidently say that this location perfectly blends quality with a welcoming vibe that makes it ideal for both casual dinners and special occasions.

The menu at Kyoto Sushi & Steak is extensive and thoughtfully curated. Sushi lovers will find classics like spicy tuna rolls and salmon nigiri, alongside innovative rolls that showcase seasonal ingredients. One personal favorite is the dragon roll, where fresh avocado and eel combine to create a creamy, rich flavor profile that melts in your mouth. On the steak side, the chef prepares cuts with precision, ensuring every bite is tender and flavorful. During a recent visit, I tried the hibachi filet mignon, which came sizzling at the table with perfectly caramelized edges, demonstrating the restaurant’s attention to technique and presentation.

Service at this diner is consistently impressive. Staff are attentive without being intrusive, offering recommendations based on preferences and explaining menu items in detail. For instance, when I was unsure about pairing a sake with my sushi, our server suggested a Junmai Daiginjo that complemented the delicate fish flavors beautifully. This level of expertise reflects both hands-on experience and thorough knowledge of Japanese cuisine, enhancing the overall dining experience.

Reviews often highlight the consistency in food quality, and that aligns with my observations. According to recent data from consumer review platforms, Kyoto Sushi & Steak maintains an average rating above 4.5 stars, which speaks volumes about its reputation in Overland Park. The restaurant frequently sources fresh ingredients locally, ensuring that every dish, whether sushi, steak, or appetizers, meets high standards of freshness and taste. This commitment is critical in Japanese cuisine, where ingredient quality significantly affects the final dish.

The environment also supports a relaxed and engaging experience. Whether you sit at the sushi bar or at one of the tables, the layout encourages conversation and enjoyment of the meal. I noticed that families, friends, and even solo diners find it comfortable and accommodating, which is not always easy to achieve in restaurants that serve both sushi and steak. One notable feature is the open hibachi area, where watching chefs cook adds an interactive element to your evening, making it as much about entertainment as it is about food.

For those exploring Overland Park, the location at 6792 W 135th St is convenient and easy to reach. Parking is ample, and the surrounding area includes other eateries and shops, making it a good stop for a full evening out. Additionally, the restaurant frequently updates its menu with seasonal specials, giving regular visitors new reasons to return. From fresh seafood selections to creative steak preparations, every visit can feel unique.

Experts in Japanese culinary arts often emphasize the importance of balancing flavors and textures, and Kyoto Sushi & Steak demonstrates this in every dish. The chefs use time-tested techniques such as precise knife skills, controlled cooking temperatures, and thoughtful seasoning to ensure each plate is memorable. Observing this process, I could appreciate the professional discipline that goes into making what might seem like simple dishes but are actually intricate culinary creations.

Customer trust is built not only through great food but also through transparency. Kyoto Sushi & Steak clearly lists ingredients and accommodates dietary preferences, which I found particularly helpful when dining with friends who have allergies or dietary restrictions. This reliability, paired with consistent high-quality service, solidifies the restaurant’s reputation as a trustworthy and enjoyable destination for Japanese cuisine.

Every visit feels like a combination of comfort, indulgence, and culinary discovery. From sushi rolls that burst with freshness to steaks grilled to perfection, Kyoto Sushi & Steak consistently delivers an experience that engages all senses. • We went on mothers Day. It was definitely a full house. We ordered a Philadephia Roll and Spicy Tuna Roll for Sushi. We ordered the soft shell crab and calamari for appetizers. We also ordered a hibachi shrimp and scallop for me ( with fried rice), and my husband got swordfish and chicken (with fried rice. Both meals come with soup (we got onion) and salad. The sushi my husband enjoyed. The soft shelled crab I personally didn't think was the best as it was over fried on the legs and soggy on the bottom. It was also bland. The calamari had a great crunch but lacked seasoning. The onion soup was delicious but SUPER SALTY. I ate both of ours as my husband ate the salads with ranch dressing. The swordfish my husband said was good, but to me it lacked the depth of flavor I was hoping for. The chicken came to us in small, overcooked pieces. With the veggies. The fried rice was okay but not worth the 2.50 uncharge. The shrimp in were cooked properly but were also underseasoned. The scallops were okay they were either small scallops or sliced up. They were. The meal wasn't memorable for the food. It was the service and that they were fast. However, we wanted to sit at a hibachi table and weren't given an option. We had no explanation how to use their menu to order

  • I had the hibachi here and it was really good. The service here though was hit or miss, but not enough to deter me from coming back. The unagi (eel) sushi we ordered was really good too. Overall it was a good experience

  • They've got the most fresh sushi in the Kansas City Metro Area, and their Hibachi portions are fantastic even for a big appetite. The atmosphere is as expected for a Hibachi place, but when it's not busy, it's peaceful and very relaxing. I dont think it's a corporate venture either. Quite a few of the people working there are all one family who work well with others in the community. Their ability to care for large groups of people is skillful and with grace. Highly recommended for date night, parties, or just for lunch. Attached are some photos of our favorite dishes. Poke bowls are bigger than they look, and those noodles are yakisoba(wheat noodles). They’re thinner than they look but large in quantity, remind me much of buttered noodles with veggies and choice of meat(pro-tip: order extra meat).

  • First time here and everything was on point. Did the hibachi and the chef was fun. Forgot to take pictures, but it was very filling and took some home. Best fried rice I've had in a while.

  • I’ve been coming here since I was little. It has not changed one bit. The staff is so warm and welcoming and remembers us every time we go. The sushi is delightful and hibachi is such a fun activity with family and friends. Their Saturday lunch special is perfect for enjoying a special meal on a budget. By far, my favorite restaurant.

  • The sushi is always so fresh and the service is immaculate. The atmosphere is welcoming and fun. They have happy hour up until 6PM on weekdays and we arrived 5 min before not knowing that and they still handed us the happy hour menu. We got there on a Tuesday night and it was busy but they were able to get a table for two seated right away. I would recommend anybody who loves sushi or Japanese food to come here. I’ve also heard their hibachi is super fun and delicious ᵕ̈

  • Delicious and fun! Perfect for a Sunday date. Our hibachi chef was very funny and interactive. Our food was cooked perfectly and seasoned well. The staff was so accommodating. Crab Rangoon was fresh and so good. Spicy crab salad was 10/10. I ordered extra veggies instead of rice and still got white rice, my date was happy to eat it for me. Never an empty drink or an empty plate. We walked in and were seated immediately and the food began flowing which was so perfect because we were starving. I highly recommend this place and they have 4 different sauces including yellow sauce.
